Two “white supremacist skinheads” had a plot to assassinate Barack Obama, and have just been charged.

It appears he was targeted in this instance for being African-American. The skinheads’ plans included shooting other African Americans (schoolchildren – details in the stories). However, the stories seem to concur that the plans were not well-developed. The assassination plans were unearthed after the men were arrested for another crime.
Federal officials said they regarded the scheme as “serious.†It does not appear to have moved to an advanced stage, according to court documents unsealed Monday, but officials said the two men did acquire several rifles and cased a home and a gun store to rob as part of the plan. – NY Times (also front page)
