Twitter out, Jaiku in

Technology

Since Twitter no longer sends SMS updates to phones in most countries, activists and journalists are turning to Jaiku, including me.

Sorry Twitter. But whyd you have to play us like that?

Sorry Twitter. But why'd you have to play us like that?

But no longer.

The Revolution WAS Being Twitterized... But no longer.

Sorry to hear that, James. But to answer your question: It’s simple. If we had continued to swallow the costs of sending int’l SMS, we couldn’t afford to run Twitter *at all*.

Maybe Jaiku has been able to work out a better deal. Or maybe their parent company is swallowing the cost, I’m not sure.

Either way, glad there’s a solution that works for you.

Hey – I’m sure you’re right, Google is able to eat the cost. It sucks because migrating hundreds of followers… no good. Esp. because the US followers aren’t affected by the SMS change. I know it’s a $ issue, I read your blog. I hope in the future there will be a way to get Twitter to work for “the revolution,” as my friends like to say. If I can help at all, or if you have any ideas, please do let me know. Fracturing any kind of networking system is stupid because the point of a network is that everyone is on it. Thanks for your note.
